Progress at the Newburgh Community Land Bank!

On April 3, 2013 the Newburgh Community Land Bank acquired its first five properties--197 Lander Street, 13-15 Chambers Street, 159 Grand Street, 55 Chambers Street and 188 Grand Street.  It anticipates acquiring an additional 10-15 properties in early July.

After an open bidding process for both architectural services and a market study, the Newburgh Community Land Bank is pleased to have hired local architect Jeff Wilkinson to work on the restoration of 13-15 Chambers Street. The property will house the Land Bank office plus classroom/conference space, additional commercial and studio space as well as three two-bedroom residential units. In addition, the Land Bank anticipates the sale and rehabilitation of 197 Lander Street, a brick, eight unit apartment building, which will return to the city's tax rolls.  The Land Bank continues to seek a buyer for 188 Grand Street, a 1930s stone church on a beautiful block.

In addition, the Land Bank has engaged Dwarka Land Use and Economic Consulting to help guide the future acquisition and development strategies of the Land Bank accounting for proposed Complete Streets TOD improvements to the lower Broadway corridor. The first part of the process is a comprehensive review of the scores of plans previously developed for the City of Newburgh.  The result will be practical,  implementable strategies for the Land Bank and other interested parties.

Please stay involved with the Land Bank!  Our meetings are open to the public and are held the third Wednesday of every month. Our next meeting will be:
